Sleeve Anchors

Looking for a strong connection for beams or another heavy object? With Wovar's sleeve anchors, you are assured of a solid attachment. Sleeve anchor differ from wedge anchors because they can be used on several surfaces. Sleeve anchors can be used not only in concrete, but can also natural stone, solid and hollow masonry, sand-lime brick and light concrete blocks.

Before you can use a sleeve anchor, you will need to drill a pilot hole in the wall and in the material you want to fasten. This makes it possible to easily attach the material after the anchor bolt has been placed.

Which drill for do I need?

Sleeve anchors are first pre-drilled in the substrate and later in the material to be fastened. The diameter of the hole depends on the thickness of the bolt. Unlike wedge anchors, the diameter of the hole with sleeve anchors should be larger than the diameter of the bolt itself. A few examples:

  • An M6 sleeve bolt requires a 10 mm masonry drill bit
  • An M8 sleeve bolt requires a 14 mm masonry drill bit
  • An M10 sleeve bolt requires a 16 mm masonry drill bit
  • An M12 sleeve bolt requires a 20 mm masonry drill bit

The length of the hole depends on the length of the anchor bolt. This also determines the thickness of the material to be attached. The longer the length of the anchor bolt, the thicker the material to be attached can be. This specific information can be found on the product page of each sleeve anchor.

After pre-drilling, insert the sleeve anchor into the hole and, if necessary, hit it carefully with a (lump) hammer. Next, tighten the nut properly. You will notice that the anchor bolt does not turn. As the nut is tightened, the bolt expands on four sides and anchors itself firmly in the wall. After securing the bolt, remove the nut and washer again, so you can attach the material to be placed. Place the object on the bolt and refit the nut and washer. Tighten the nut so that the material is firmly attached to the wall or other surface.
