When should I wear ear defenders?
When you are working in a loud environment, it is wise to don ear protection. On construction sites, it is often a legal requirement to wear ear defenders when you are working with machines. You can imagine that the noise coming from a circular saw or mitre saw is damaging to your hearing. It is also recommended to put on ear defenders when working with a hammer drill or angle grinder.
When is ear protection mandatory?
In many countries, it is a legal requirement for employers to provide their employees with ear protection when daily noise levels reach 85 dB(A). However, the risk of slight hearing loss could already start at a level of approximately 80 dB(A).
