Hammer Fixings
Hammer fixings are widely used for mounting beams to walls and are hammered in place. Wovar supplies hammer fixings with a thickness of 6, 8, and 10 mm. The 10 mm thick hammer fixings are also called hammer plugs. These are suitable for mounting heavy beams. You can mount slats with the 6.0 mm thick hammer fixings, for example. Previously, expansion bolts were often used for this. Hammer fixings make mounting beams to walls a lot easier. Wovar hammer fixings have a Torx or cross-head drive. This is fitted for dismantling the hammer fixings. We deliver our hammer fixings in no more than 2-5 business days throughout Europe.
In addition to hammer fixings, wovar also offers concrete screws without fixings and frame fixings!
Frequently asked questions
How do you use hammer fixings?
Hammer fixings are easy to use. If you want to fix wood to stone or concrete, drill a hole in both the wood and the concrete. The drill bit should have the same diameter as the hammer fixing. Use a (hard)wood drill bit for the wood, and a masonry drill bit for the stone or concrete. You can determine the required depth of the hole with the following formula: hammer fixing - thickness of wood + 1 cm = depth. Next, insert the plug into the hole by hitting it with a hammer.
What are hammer fixings?
A hammer fixing is a screw combined with a nylon wall plug that allows you to quickly secure wood to stone or concrete. By hitting the plug with a hammer, it expands, and the plug anchors itself in the stone or concrete.
Which size hammer fixings do I need?
The size of the hammer fixing depends on the material you want to attach. The thickness of the wood determines the length of the hammer fixing. The diameter of the hammer fixing is also important. The thicker the hammer fixing, the stronger the connection. With a wooden slat or small piece of wood, 5 or 6 mm thick hammer fixing usually suffice. On every product page you will find the maximum thickness of the material for that specific hammer fixing. Do you want to join big beams for, for example, a canopy? Then use 10 mm hammer fixings.
How do I remove hammer fixings?
Hammer fixings are used for connecting wood to stone or concrete, usually for a longer period of time. Should it be necessary to remove the wood and take out the hammer fixings, you will need a screwdriver or power drill with a fitting bit. This is mentioned for every hammer fixing on the product page. Turn the screw counterclockwise so it is drawn out, and the plug shrinks. Next, pull the hammer fixing out of the stone or concrete.
