Post Bases

On this page, you will find post bases made of galvanised steel. These post holders are ideal for fixing a post to a concrete surface, pavers, or a deck due to the flat bottom. The mounting holes in the sides of the post base allow you to securely fasten the post to the base with wafer head screws or post holder screws with a length of approximately 4 cm. Post bases are also referred to as post shoes or bolt-down post holders.

Prefer a different kind of post holder? Have a look at our pointed post anchors or elevated post bases.

Our post bases are a popular choice for building a fence or pergola with 7 x 7, 9 x 9, 12 x 12, or 15 x 15 cm posts. These post shoes are a great alternative to our pointed post anchors. For both these post holders, though less so for the post bases, it could be wise to strengthen the structure you are building with storm anchors and 45° wooden braces. Incorporating these angled beams in the design of your pergola or fence is a simple way to make the structure stronger and sturdier.

Securing posts to a post base

Post bases, also referred to as post shoes, are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. When choosing a post base for your project, pay attention to the following. First, the shape and size of the post. There are post bases for round posts and square posts in different sizes. Second, the mounting method. If you want more support, a floor connector might be the best option for you. For carports and pergolas, U-anchors are a favourite. Fences are often built using post shoes.

Attaching a post to a post holder is fairly straightforward. Simply drill a pilot hole with a hardwood drill bit and fasten the post with coach screws, coach bolts, or wafer head screws.

Adjustable elevated post base

With our adjustable elevated post bases, you can place your posts between 10 and 20 cm above the surface. This results in posts that are “floating”, creating a unique look for, for instance, your carport. Even though the post holder is adjustable, it is still incredibly strong. If an adjustable elevated post base is not necessary for your project, we also provide regular elevated post bases.
