Coated Deck Screw - for Hardwoods with Tannic Acid, like Garapa 5 x 70 mm
Are you going to make a deck from wood containing tannic acid? Then make sure that you do not get black spots on your wood. Mount your decking with these tannic acid resistant 5 x 70 mm deck screws. The black spots are caused by using the wrong screws. Hardwoods with tannic acid include Oak, Garapa, Azobe, Kapur and Red Cedar. A normal Stainless Steel 410 screw is not resistant to tannic acid and will break after some time. This 5 x 70 mm deck screw, coated for protection against tannic acid, will hold up well when used in your project.
How to Install a Decking with Hardwoods containing Tannic Acid?
Decking screws have a partial thread, which means that the last part of the screw between the tip and the head has no thread. This partial-thread screw pulls wood on wood constructions tight against each other, minimizing the chance of gaps. To ensure that the installation proceeds as smoothly as possible, it is wise to pre-drill so that the screw turns nicely into the wood and the small chance of breaking the screw disappears. Pre-drilling with a 5 millimeter thick screw is done using 3.5 mm thick hardwood drills. Drill the holes in a straight line with our decking liner.
This coated screw is provided with milling ribs so that the screw partially sinks into the decking by itself. To make sure that the screw is completely countersunk in the wood, you can use the countersink bits for smooth decking.
Installing Deck Screws
You can easily install decking screws using Torx bits. This screw type requires a Torx 25 bit. When screwing in your deck screw, make sure to use the correct bit to avoid damage to the screw head. This way you can enjoy your screws, but also your decking, for the longest time possible. The right bit ensures more grip on the screw head. This way it won't shoot away while spinning.
Screws that are countersunk into the wood surface provide a wonderful finish. To make the look even better, use decking spacers. With decking spacers, you ensure the same distance between each deck board. This way, it will be universally the same, for all boards. This prevents skewed planks or differences in spacing.
